Rice quality is a comprehensive quantitative trait greatly influenced by heredity and environment. Here, 11 rice quality traits and Rapid Visco-Analyser (RVA) profiles of 30 indica rice germplasms were detected and analyzed. In addition, we used grain size genes and starch synthesis gene Wx to detect the rice quality genotypes of rice. The results showed different degrees of correlation among rice quality traits. In addition, principal component analysis (PCA) divided rice quality traits into four principal components, and the cumulative contribution rate reached 82.478%. Cluster analysis divided 30 rice varieties into five categories. The first four types had better rice quality. Identification of rice quality genes indicated that most of the genotypes were GS3, GS9, GW5, GW8 and Wxb, and a few were GW7 and Wxa. Identifying rice quality characteristics and genotypes of rice varieties may lay a theoretical foundation for promoting the cultivation of new rice varieties, enabling breeders andresearchers to develop better rice varieties

    Get PDF
The present study is mainly a continuation of our previous study, which is about a crop evaluation system development that is based on grey relational analysis. In that system, the attribute weight determination affects the evaluation result directly. Attribute weight is usually ascertained by decision-makers experience knowledge. In this paper, we utilize rough sets theory to calculate attribute significance and then combine it with weight given by decision-maker. This method is a comprehensive consideration of subjective experience knowledge and objective situation; thus it can acquire much more ideal results. Finally, based on this method, we improve the system based on ASP.NET technology

This work was financially supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (Nos. 21975030 and 11674005), and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (No. 2016YFB0700600 (National Materials Genome Project)).Solving the polysulfide shuttle problem is one of the core challenges for the industrialization of lithium–sulfur batteries. In this work, a triphasic composite of LDH/sulfur/rGO (LDH: layered double hydroxide, rGO: reduced graphene oxide) with a crepe cake like structure is designed and fabricated as a positive electrode material for lithium–sulfur batteries. Sulfur nanoparticles are embedded in the interlayer space of the composite and thus are well protected physically via three-dimensional wrapping and chemically via strong interaction of LDH nanoflakes with lithium polysulfides, such as ionic bonds and S···H hydrogen bonds. In addition, the flexible lamellar structure of the composite with soft graphene layers can tolerate the volume expansion of sulfur during lithiation as well as facilitate ionic permeability and electron transport, which is favorable for the redox reactions of polysulfide. The present work sheds light on the future development and industrialization of lithium–sulfur batteries.PostprintPeer reviewe

Sex modifies APOE Δ4 dose effect on brain tau deposition in cognitively impaired individuals

Recent studies in cognitively unimpaired elderly individuals suggest that the APOE Δ4 allele exerts a dosage-dependent effect on brain tau deposition. The aim of this study was to investigate sex differences in APOE Δ4 gene dosage effects on brain tau deposition in cognitively impaired individuals using quantitative 18F-flortaucipir PET. Preprocessed 18F-flortaucipir tau PET images, T1-weighted structural MRI, demographic information, global cortical amyloid-ÎČ burden measured by 18F-florbetapir PET, CSF total tau and phosphorylated tau measurements were obtained from the Alzheimer\u27s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database. Two hundred and sixty-eight cognitively impaired individuals with 146 APOE Δ4 non-carriers and 122 carriers (85 heterozygotes and 37 homozygotes) were included in the study. An iterative reblurred Van Cittert iteration partial volume correction method was applied to all downloaded PET images. Magnetic resonance images were used for PET spatial normalization. Twelve regional standardized uptake value ratios relative to the cerebellum were computed in standard space. APOE Δ4 dosage × sex interaction effect on 18F-flortaucipir standardized uptake value ratios was assessed using generalized linear models and sex-stratified analysis. We observed a significant APOE Δ4 dosage × sex interaction effect on tau deposition in the lateral temporal, posterior cingulate, medial temporal, inferior temporal, entorhinal cortex, amygdala, parahippocampal gyrus regions after adjusting for age and education level (P \u3c 0.05). The medial temporal, entorhinal cortex, amygdala and parahippocampal gyrus regions retained a significant APOE Δ4 dosage × sex interaction effect on tau deposition after adjusting for global cortical amyloid-ÎČ (P \u3c 0.05). In sex-stratified analysis, there was no significant difference in tau deposition between female homozygotes and heterozygotes (P \u3e 0.05). In contrast, male homozygotes standardized uptake value ratios were significantly greater than heterozygotes or non-carriers throughout all 12 regions of interest (P \u3c 0.05). Female heterozygotes exhibited significantly increased tau deposition compared to male heterozygotes in the orbitofrontal, posterior cingulate, lateral temporal, inferior temporal, entorhinal cortex, amygdala and parahippocampal gyrus (P \u3c 0.05). Results from voxel-wise analysis were similar to the ones obtained from regions of interest analysis. Our findings indicate that an APOE Δ4 dosage effect on brain region-specific tau deposition exists in males, but not females. These results have important clinical implications towards developing sex and genotype-guided therapeutics in Alzheimer\u27s disease and uncovers a potential explanation underlying differential APOE Δ4-associated Alzheimer\u27s risk in males and females

Facile Preparation, Characterization, and Highly Effective Microwave Absorption Performance of CNTs/Fe 3

A facile method has been developed to synthesize light-weight CNTs/Fe3O4/PANI nanocomposites. The formation route was proposed as the coprecipitation of Fe2+ and Fe3+ and an additional process of in situ polymerization of aniline monomer. The structure and morphology of CNTs/Fe3O4/PANI were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The TEM investigation shows that the CNTs/Fe3O4/PANI nanocomposites exhibit less intertwined structure and that many more Fe3O4 particles are attached homogeneously on the surface of CNTs, indicating that PANI can indeed help CNTs to disperse in isolated form. The wave-absorbing properties were investigated in a frequency of 2–18 GHz. The results show that the CNTs/Fe3O4/PANI nanocomposites exhibit a super absorbing behavior and possess a maximum reflection loss of −48 dB at 12.9 GHz, and the bandwidth below −20 dB is more than 5 GHz. More importantly, the absorption peak frequency ranges of the CNTs/Fe3O4/PANI composites can be tuned easily by changing the wax weight ratio and thickness of CNTs/Fe3O4/PANI paraffin wax matrix

ChatGPT has drawn considerable attention from both the general public and domain experts with its remarkable text generation capabilities. This has subsequently led to the emergence of diverse applications in the field of biomedicine and health. In this work, we examine the diverse applications of large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, in biomedicine and health. Specifically we explore the areas of biomedical information retrieval, question answering, medical text summarization, information extraction, and medical education, and investigate whether LLMs possess the transformative power to revolutionize these tasks or whether the distinct complexities of biomedical domain presents unique challenges. Following an extensive literature survey, we find that significant advances have been made in the field of text generation tasks, surpassing the previous state-of-the-art methods. For other applications, the advances have been modest. Overall, LLMs have not yet revolutionized the biomedicine, but recent rapid progress indicates that such methods hold great potential to provide valuable means for accelerating discovery and improving health. We also find that the use of LLMs, like ChatGPT, in the fields of biomedicine and health entails various risks and challenges, including fabricated information in its generated responses, as well as legal and privacy concerns associated with sensitive patient data. We believe this first-of-its-kind survey can provide a comprehensive overview to biomedical researchers and healthcare practitioners on the opportunities and challenges associated with using ChatGPT and other LLMs for transforming biomedicine and health

CFD investigation of gas-solids flow in a new fluidized catalyst cooler

    Get PDF
In our previous work, a new concept of annular catalyst cooler (ACC) was proposed and validated experimentally, which showed that an internal circulation of solids could be formed by using two gas distributors and both hydrodynamics and heat transfer could be largely improved. The current work simulated detailed hydrodynamics of gas-solids flow to advance our understanding of the ACC by using the two-fluid model. The influences of effective particle diameter dp⁎ and specularity coefficient φ were examined and compared with experimental data. Optimum values of dp⁎ = 170 ÎŒm and φ = 0.3 were determined and used in the simulations. Detailed hydrodynamics of gas-solids flow were then obtained, and the influential parameters were examined. The results showed that the proper selection of the ratio of gas velocities and the position of the heat transfer tube were needed to form a stable internal solids circulation in the ACC. The ACC had a combined hydrodynamic feature of up-flow and down-flow catalyst coolers with bigger solids volume fraction and smaller particle resident time, which are beneficial for improving the heat transfer between solids and wall
